The Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists was established in its current form in 1989. Membership is compulsory for physicians and dentists in Poland.
TASKS &
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Representation and protection of the professions of physician and dentist
- Exercising care and supervision over diligent and conscientious practice
- Expressing opinions on matters concerning public health, health policy of the state and organisational arrangements for health protection
- Co-operating with scientific associations; higher education and research & development institutions in Poland and foreign countries
- Offering mutual aid and other forms of financial assistance to physicians and members of their families
- Establishment of the right to practise as a physician or dentist
- Maintaining the register of physicians and dentists
- Negotiating work and remuneration conditions
- Co-operating in matters of professional specialisation
- Chairing election commissions for the selection of the ward head and participating in the selection of other managerial positions in the health services
- Delivering opinions and tabling motions in matters of pre- and postgraduate education of physicians and dentists and other medical professionals
- Acting as medical courts in matters involving professional liability of physicians and dentists, as well as amicable settlements
- Recognising qualifications of physicians and dental practitioners who are nationals of EU Member States and wish to practise their profession in the territory of Poland
- Most of the above mentioned activities are performed at regional and national levels.
QUALIFICATIONS
MEDICAL EDUCATION
BASIC MEDICAL EDUCATION
- The minimum duration of study for acquiring a medical degree is 6 years / 5,500 hours
- The Ministry of Education defines the content of basic medical training by setting the curriculum framework, but universities have the freedom to offer additional subjects
SPECIALITY TRAINING
- The Ministry of Health defines the content of specialty training by setting the framework programme for each specialty. The Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists then reviews the framework
- Specialty training takes place at accredited hospitals
- Certificates for specialty training are issued by the Medical Examination Centre
- Specialty qualifications from abroad are recognised by the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists' Centre of Recognition of Qualifications
CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION / CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CME / CPD)
- CME and CPD are compulsory in Poland
- The Ministry of Health is responsible for CME/CPD regulations
- The Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists is responsible for accrediting training events
- Physicians must accumulate 200 credits within 4 years
